About Local Government Services

Local Government Services provides training and technical assistance to local governments & community organizations.

Our Mission

  • Provide support for local municipal governments to incentivize effective and efficient operation of their governmental systems.
  • Provide the executive branch information and expertise required to develop policy regarding the state and local government relationship; and
  • Develop and implement plans based on the policies established by the executive branch.

Who We Serve

DLGS serves the needs of local governments and, through LGE grants that promote efficient and effective governance, the taxpayers of the State of New York.

DLGS staff train thousands of members of local governing boards, planning boards, zoning boards of appeals, and others at local and regional events and online tutorials. We assist local officials with technical questions about local government administration, municipal planning and land use regulation.

DLGS also maintains an array of publications and online resources to help local officials solve problems.
