NYS Department of State (DOS) Division of Cemeteries is happy to announce its 3rd annual Caring for your Cemetery Day. This year’s volunteer clean-up event will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2026 and/or Sunday, April 26, 2026. Cemeteries may choose one or both dates.
Drawing inspiration from New York State's successful I Love My Park Day, we aspire to connect cemeteries with volunteers—both groups and individuals—to assist in clean up activities, especially volunteer-run cemeteries with limited maintenance budgets, to help them prepare for the Spring season.
Our vision for the day is to welcome volunteers into cemeteries to help with tasks such as:
- Cleaning up small debris, trash, and seasonal decorations
- Planting flowers
- Removing downed branches, weeds, and overgrowth
- Scattering grass seed
- Other light tasks appropriate for untrained volunteers
Informational webinars will be available for interested and participating non-profit cemeteries on February 19th at 4pm and on February 25th at 1pm. To register, click below:
