A fair day's wage for a fair day's work is a principle upon which this state was built. That's why the Nail Salon Industry Task Force is cracking down on employers who exploit workers. Recently, the Task Force ordered 143 nail salons in New York to pay $2 million in unpaid wages and damages to more than 650 workers.
Worker exploitation has no place in the State of New York.
To protect you and other nail salon workers, New York State has enacted historic reforms, including:
- One of the strongest wage protections in the nation, ensuring workers get paid the wages to which they are entitled;
- Some of the strongest air quality protections in the nation keeping workers and the public safe; and
- Rigorous safety standards, guaranteeing workers complete access to protective equipment including masks, gloves and eye protection.
New York State also created the Nail Salon Workers' Bill of Rights. It notifies workers of their rights to a legal wage and safe working environment. Nail salons must post the Bill of Rights in a place visible to all employees and the public.
In New York State State, there are also other measures in place to restore economic justice and fairness for working families, including the
statewide $15 minimum wage for all workers, including nail technicians, and a 12-week paid family leave policy. The paid family leave program provides 12 weeks of paid leave to take care of a sick family member or bond with a new child--more than any family leave program in the nation.

Let's keep fighting to protect dignity and respect for all workers. You can help make sure that you have a healthy work environment.
