Overview

The Department of State has the authority to conduct investigations and hold hearings relative to whether administration and enforcement of the codes meets the minimum standards. A consistent pattern of complaints regarding a specific municipality or county may lead the Department to decide that further action is necessary to ensure that the Uniform Code is in full force and effect.

Investigations of local governments or counties are conducted where there is evidence that the administration and enforcement of the codes does not meet the minimum standards established in regulations.

Process

Once the Department has received a complaint, it will be evaluated by central office staff. Please allow at least 30 days for processing.

If it is determined that further investigation is warranted, we will assign the complaint to one of our regional offices, and will also notify you in writing.

File a Complaint

To file a complaint submit the form and supporting documents to the main office, and send one copy of the complaint form and all supporting documents to the local government.

Be sure to keep a copy of the complaint form and each supporting document for your own records.
