Town of Amherst Local Waterfront Revitalization Program

The Town of Amherst Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP) covers a waterfront revitalization area (WRA) of approximately 8.19 square miles that encompasses segments of the regulated drainage area of Tonawanda Creek, Erie Canal, and Ellicott Creek within the Town limits, the Town-owned Nature View Park that is the Town's largest public nature conservation area, State and federal wetlands, a portion of the agricultural district adjacent to Tonawanda Creek, a segment of the Erie Canalway Corridor and adjacent open space, the Buffalo Niagara Heritage Museum, Empire State Trail bike path, Veteran's Canal Park, Fisherman's Wharf, Ellicott Creek Trailway, a portion of the University at Buffalo campus, the Audubon Recreation Complex and golf course, the Town's wastewater treatment plant, Ellicott Creek lsland Bark Park, and Amherst State Park.

The Town of Amherst LWRP provides a comprehensive framework within which critical waterfront issues will be addressed and consists of a locally prepared comprehensive land and water use plan for the Town's public and developed waterfront resources and associated local laws and management structure that help the town implement its approved LWRP.

The Town of Amherst LWRP was adopted by resolution of the Town Board on June 5, 2023, and approved by the New York State Secretary of State on November 8, 2023, pursuant to Article 42 of the Executive Law.
