Overview

The Town of Grand Island Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP) is a locally prepared comprehensive land and water use plan for the Town’s natural, public, and developed waterfront resources along the Niagara River and its tributaries.

The Town of Grand Island LWRP amends the State’s Coastal Management Program and has been incorporated into the CMP for the portion of the State’s coastal area covered by the WRA described in the LWRP. It also provides a comprehensive framework within which critical waterfront issues can be addressed, and planned waterfront projects can be pursued and implemented. The LWRP identifies 23 specific projects that would improve connectivity and accessibility to the waterfront’s recreational resources, improve stormwater drainage, and protect and enhance fish and wildlife habitats.

The Grand Island LWRP was adopted by resolution of the Town Board on May 20, 2024, approved by the New York State Secretary of State on January 15, 2025, and NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management concurred with its incorporation into the New York State Coastal Management Program on June 11, 2025.
