Our Mission

Pursuant to Article 41 of the General Business Law of the State of New York and regulations set forth in 19 NYCRR §§ 206-214, The New York State Athletic Commission:  

  • Administratively enforces the laws, rules and regulations pertaining to combative sports and professional wrestling New York State;
  • Periodically reviews rules and protocols, recommending changes as deemed necessary and appropriate for the overall improvement the sports and activities within the jurisdiction of NYSAC;
  • Establishes and maintains the highest standards and procedures in consultation with the Medical Advisory Board to uphold NYSAC’s commitment to the health and safety of New York State regulated combative sports.

Core Services

The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) regulates professional combative sports matches and exhibitions throughout New York State. Professional boxing, mixed martial arts and wrestling fall under the purvey of NYSAC, comprised of an Executive Director, five Commissioners appointed by the Governor, as well as a Chief Medical Officer, and a Medical Advisory Board. In addition to administering licenses for qualified athletes, seconds, promoters, managers and matchmakers, NYSAC enforces the rules and regulations, upholding the highest medical and safety standards for all our licensed athletes.
