The New York Department of State’s Division of Consumer Protection (DCP), in partnership with the New York State Builders Association (NYSBA) and its philanthropic not-for-profit organization, the Research & Education Foundation (NYSBA REF), today announced that it will offer “Tip Over” prevention education to parents, grandparents, guardians, and other caregivers of small children, at the Mohawk Valley Home Show 2017, scheduled for Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2, 2017.

“Every thirty minutes in the United States, tipped furniture or a falling television sends a child to the emergency room,” said New York Secretary of State Rossana Rosado. “And tragically, a child in the United States dies every two weeks as a result of unsecured furniture in the home. I invite residents of the Mohawk Valley to take advantage of this important opportunity and stop by our booth to learn how to secure your furniture and keep your kids from danger.”

“The New York State Builders Association Research and Education Foundation is proud to partner with the New York State Division of Consumer Protection in bringing awareness of the seriousness of tip over dangers from unsecured furniture,” said Mark Barbato, President of NYSBA REF and Immediate Past President of NYSBA. “The NYSBA REF has hosted the DCP at previous Home Builders Association home shows across the state as well to advocate their ‘Tip Over’ program.”

The Mohawk Valley Home Show 2017, will take place at the Jorgensen Athletic Center on the Mohawk Valley Community College Utica Campus, located at 1101 Sherman Drive, Utica, NY 13501. On Saturday, April 1, show hours are from 10:00am-6:00pm and Sunday, April 2, from 11:00am-4:00pm.

DCP will share the options available in the marketplace to secure potentially hazardous furniture, televisions, and other appliances. Last weekend, DCP and NYSBA provided “Tip Over” information and safety tips at the Home & Garden Show 2017 in Binghamton, as well as at the Rochester Home & Garden Show, as part of this educational outreach safety campaign.

NYSBA represents homebuilders striving to provide quality new housing for families throughout the State.
